Olivia Thomassen Harre, Lene Nielsen, and Sanna Marttila will lead a workshop titled “Organizations as Materials for Service Design: Exploring Transformative Experiences of Enhanced Awareness.” on October 6-8, at the Service Design and Innovation Conference Hyderabad, India.
The workshop will explore how organizations can be approached as design materials to foster deeper awareness and support personal and cultural transformation within professional practice. Focusing on service design professionals, the workshop invites participants to share and reflect on personal narratives of change. Together, they will develop a shared vocabulary to better understand how service design can influence mindsets and reshape organizational culture. Three core dimensions will guide the exploration: mindset shifts, changes in the external environment, and how these transformations are represented through materials. Emphasizing relational processes between people, organizations, and artifacts, the workshop seeks to uncover the complexity and interconnectivity of transformative experiences. Ultimately, the goal is to challenge conventional perspectives on service design’s impact and build new ways of articulating how it contributes to meaningful change.
